As orações relativas geralmente incluem preposições, e o pronome relativo consiste no objeto da preposição utilizada. No inglês cotidiano, a preposição é normalmente inserida ao final da oração relativa, e o pronome pode ser incluído ou omitido. Entretanto, no inglês formal, a preposição deve ser posicionada antes do pronome relativo (nesses casos, o pronome não pode ser omitido). Nos exemplos abaixo, os pronomes inseridos dentro dos parênteses podem ser omitidos.
